Michael Carroll was said to have turned to drugs following threats |
A millionaire lottery winner has pleaded guilty to possessing illegal drugs. Magistrates in Swaffham, Norfolk, heard that Michael Carroll had 19.7g of cocaine valued at 1,500 in his house.
Carroll admitted having cocaine and cannabis in his home and to allowing his house to be used to smoke cannabis.
Carroll, 20, of Swaffham, won 9.7m on the National Lottery in 2002.
The court was told Carroll, who will be sentenced on 2 March, sought solace in drugs after he received "threats".
Recent problems
Magistrates said they had not ruled out a custodial sentence.
Prosecutor Josephine Jones said police found the drugs when they raided Carroll's home in December.
In addition to cocaine, officers found herbal cannabis with a street value of 10.90, cannabis resin worth 70 and 20 magic mushrooms.
Neil Meachem, defending, said his client had no history of drug offences.
He told the court Carroll's money did not instantly buy him happiness and his client had problems.

"One is a domestic problem in relation to his marital situation," he said. "More recently there have been difficulties because he has received threats of a particular kind."
Carroll also admitted driving a car on a provisional licence without L-plates near Swaffham earlier this month.
Magistrates fined him 200, endorsed his licence with six penalty points and ordered him to pay 55 costs.
Carroll has denied receiving stolen power tools worth 1,100 and attempting to handle a stolen hedge trimmer.
That case was adjourned until 26 March for a pre-trial review at magistrates in King's Lynn.
