Flooding fears across the east
Flood Protection
Experts warned homeowners and businesses about flooding
Heavy rain and strong winds has led to fears of flooding across the east of England.

On Saturday, the Environment Agency (EA) issued eight flood warnings - which mean flooding is expected - for parts of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Lincolnshire.

The EA has also warned 17 further areas to be on alert for possible future flooding.

This includes land on the Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire border, and parts of Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.

The EA said it expected flooding in parts of the east affecting homes, businesses and main roads.

Firecrews have already been called to properties at Wymondham and Buxton in Norfolk where they pumped out flooded homes.

Flood warnings have been issued for the River Yare from Barnham Broom to Cringleford near Norwich and for people on the Suffolk/Norfolk border.

Flood warnings for the Norfolk/Suffolk border are in operation for Stanton, Norton, Elmswell, Botesdale, Diss, Pakenham, Sapiston, Ixworth, Stowlangtoft and Walsham-le-Willows.

Rising levels have been recorded in Norfolk on the River Bure from Corpusty to Brampton, including Aylsham.

Many Cambridgeshire villages are also under threat from flooding.

A warning has been issued for Abbots Ripton, Kings Ripton, Alconbury, Broughton, Ramsey, Wistow, Molesworth, Upton, Alconbury Weston and Hamerton.

Park and ride closed

Norfolk Police have warned drivers to take care on all roads where there is a danger of localised flooding patrols are reporting deep water in places with some roads closed altogether while others are passable with care.

The weather has also seen the closure of Sprowston Park and Ride, near Norwich, because rain has weakened the embankment which is in danger of slipping onto the access roads.

Flood Watch alerts have been issued for areas including the River Kym, between Kimbolton and Great Staughton, near the border between Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, and the River Gipping, between Stowmarket and Needham Market in Suffolk.

There is also concern about possible flooding at the River Wid from Ingatestone to Writtle in Essex.
