Old chimney
The chimney of the old hospital is being demolished
The 200 foot chimney at the old Norfolk and Norwich Hospital was demolished on Thursday.

Persimmon Homes is to build 500 houses and flats on the site.

The doors at the old hospital were closed for the last time in January 2003.

Remaining staff moved to the new hospital at Colney.

On Thursday the 200 foot chimney was demolished at about 1100 BST.

Nearby homes were evacuated and roads closed before the explosives were detonated.

Engineers, who placed explosives inside the chimney, dug a ditch to catch the 15 tons of brick and steel.
