Ecotricity says it will carry on fighting to build the turbines |
Plans to build two more giant wind turbines in Norfolk have been turned down. Ecotricity, the company behind the scheme for the 100-metre turbines at Shipdham, already has two turbines at Swaffham.
Concerned villagers in Shipdham formed an action group two years ago to fight the proposals.
The original plans were rejected in December by Breckland District Council, claiming it would ruin views across the open landscape.
A five-day planning inquiry was held last month after Ecotricity appealed against the council decision.
The appeal was also rejected on the grounds that the turbines would be too noisy for local residents. Ecotricity has pledged to fight the decision which was welcomed by members of the Campaign Against Turbines at Shipdham and Scarning (CATSS).
Managing director of Ecotricity, Dale Vince, said: "The inspector, we think, has made a mistake. She found in favour of our application on every major issue and found against us on one, which is noise, for which we had proposed a condition."
Before the appeal he said opposition to the turbine project was down to a "small but vocal minority".
