The hovercraft will be used in shallow waters |
A Norfolk lifeboat station is getting one of only two hovercrafts in the country. The Hunstanton Lifeboat crew tried out the hovercraft two years ago.
It has taken all that time to raise more than 120,000 to buy the craft, which it is hoped will help the crew cope with the rising demand for their services.
It will be used for rescues in the shallow waters of the Wash.
Nationally, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is reporting one of its busiest years so far, with a 10% increase in call-outs.
The number of people rescued also went up by more than 400.
The hovercraft has already begun to help people in the Hunstanton area, and also spent a day in Great Yarmouth searching for the missing boy, Daniel Entwistle.
The hovercraft came into full service on Monday.
