Norfolk County Council will also offer training for childminders |
A grant from a lotto fund will mean more than 1,800 extra childcare places Norfolk and new classes for childminders. The New Opportunities Fund (NOF) has awarded 1.5m to expand schemes offering childcare places for children, parents and carers.
Bryan Slater, the county's Director of Education, said: "This announcement - and the money it means for Norfolk - will offer not only great opportunities for childcare schemes starting up or wishing to expand, but also offer individuals a chance to start their own businesses."
It is hoped that more accessible childcare will help parents hold down jobs or seek training.
The county also announced on Thursday that it would launch a new course for people thinking about a career in childcare.
Dorothy Wedge, of the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership, said the course shows a "commitment to ensuring that the provisions receiving this new NOF money will be staffed by a good quality workforce".
Anyone interested in becoming a childminder, training to find a job in the field or finding a place for a child is asked to contact the county council.
