Baxter has captained the England Under-17 side |
A teenage Premier League footballer has been arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis and fake money. Jose Baxter, 17, made his professional debut for Everton last season, becoming the youngest player ever to appear for the club's first team. The forward, from Bootle, was arrested with two men, aged 29 and 34, in the Kirkby area of Merseyside on Monday. They have since been released on bail by Merseyside Police. Everton Football Club refused to comment. A police spokesman said: "Three men have been arrested in Kirkby on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply and possession of counterfeit money. "All three men have been released on police bail pending further inquiries." This season the footballer has represented the team twice in the Europa League. In March Mr Baxter signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract at Goodison Park. He turned 17 in February and broke James Vaughan's record as the club's youngest first-team player when he made his debut against Blackburn in August 2008 at the age of 16 years and 191 days.
