Butcher's Everton FA Cup sausage

Mark Shepherd and his blue sausages
Mr Shepherd said the sausages were selling quicker than Wembley tickets

An Everton-supporting butcher from west Lancashire is celebrating his club's upcoming FA Cup final with a Toffees-themed sausage.

Mark Shepherd, proprietor of Broughs Butchers in Ormskirk, has concocted a blue sausage blending pork with the taste of Everton toffee mints.

Despite their unusual appearance, Mr Shepherd said the customer response had been "overwhelming".

Everton take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley on 30 May.

Mr Shepherd visited Wembley with his colleague, Ian, when the Toffees defeated Manchester United in the semi-final.

"Coming back up the M6 we thought, 'We need to do something to support the boys when they get to the final - we need to come up with a product.

"It's a secret recipe that we've come up with, but they do taste like a mild Everton mint.

"They are unusual I think you are going to either love them or you're going to hate them. But personally, we think we've come up with a really good recipe."

Broughs' branches in Formby and Ainsdale also sell the blue sausages, but managers in Birkdale and Southport will not stock the sausages because they are Liverpool and Manchester United fans.

Mr Shepherd said they were missing out on customers.
