Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar has become the latest victim of thieves targeting Merseyside footballers.

His home in the Woolton area of Liverpool was raided on Saturday while he was at Goodison Park preparing to play against Spurs.

Merseyside Police say officers were called to the South African international's home at about 1430 BST.

A force spokesman later said a 41-year-old local man had been arrested on suspicion of burglary and bailed.

It is not known if any property was taken.

Pienaar is the 10th victim of gangs who target the homes of Merseyside players when they are out playing matches.

Recent victims have included Steven Gerrard, Lucas and Robbie Keane whose hotel room was raided before his move back to Tottenham.
