A Wirral factory is set to close with a possible loss of more than a hundred jobs, the BBC has learned. Chemical company Croda International announced plans at its general meeting to shut the Bromborough site, which could see the loss of 115 jobs. Wirral MP Ben Chapman said the firm had tried to sell the factory but could not find a buyer. Merseyside's Trades Union Congress (TUC) said it was concerning how firms simply cut branches to save cash. Alec McFadden, president of Merseyside TUC, said: "The Bromborough factory could be chopped because to them its just a small part of a massive empire." The factory has processed tallow, a rendered form of beef or mutton fat, for more than 150 years. It used to make goods for Price's Candle Works in the 1850s but more recently generated high value chemicals.
