Father's tribute to his dead son
Liam Costello
Liam Costello suffered fatal head injuries
The father of a Merseyside boy who died in a 200ft (60m) fall from a mountain has paid tribute to his son.

Liam Costello's father, also called Liam, said the 11-year-old "touched the hearts of everyone he met".

The boy from Childwall, Liverpool, was walking with his father and another family when he fell from the Crib y Ddysgl ridge on Snowdon, north Wales.

His father praised his son as a talented sportsman who represented Liverpool at both football and cricket.

Before his death, Liam had been selected for cricket trials at Lancashire Cricket Club.

The youngster died on Friday after suffering extensive head injuries. He was pronounced dead at Gwynedd Hospital in Bangor.

Mr Costello said he was "adored by his mum Patty and dad Liam, also worshipped by his little brother Tom".

'Tragic accident'

He said there was no-one to blame for the incident.

"It had been a boys day out. We'd gone down the night before and stayed in a hotel and went to watch Everton win - and then we set off for a day out that didn't go as planned.

"It was just an accident - it could have happened to anybody and unfortunately it was our son. There was nobody to blame - it was a tragic accident.

"He was a fabulous boy and loved because of the child he was with time and compassion for everyone - people I've never even met have rung and offered their sympathy."

He added: "We'll have to get through this and we've got a long, long way to go."

Thirty members of Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team and a group from RAF Valley at Anglesey attended the scene

A spokesman for the mountain rescue team said low cloud and bad weather conditions at the time of the accident delayed the operation to airlift the boy.
