Football hooligan website closed
Manchester United's goalkeeper Roy Carroll injured on ground

A website selling Merseyside Police video footage of football hooligans has been shut down following a threat of legal action.

The force is now investigating how film of the violence between Everton and Manchester United fans was made public.

Footage from officers and CCTV is now being sold on an hour long DVD.

Police say a London-based website has withdrawn the film after they were threatened with copyright proceedings. Some Scandinavian sites still sell it.

No control

Serious clashes, which have become known as the Battle of Everton Valley, followed the FA cup tie between the two clubs in February 2005.

They marked Wayne Rooney's first appearance at his former club after signing for their Manchester rivals.

Around 500 police officers tackled supporters outside the ground and towards the city centre.

The force says it releases material to a number of third parties including defence solicitors and then has little control over the footage.
