Liverpool City Council is considering getting rid of water coolers and bottled water from its buildings in favour of traditional tap water. Labour's green issues spokesman, Nick Small, is proposing the motion for to save money and the environment.
The council spent �48,000 on bottled water last year and said urging its staff to drink "council pop" would be 500 times cheaper.
The motion will be discussed at a council meeting later.
If the plan was approved, the council would remove all water coolers from the Town Hall and other municipal buildings and install drinking water taps instead.
The council said tap water was not only cheaper, it removed the need to find landfill space for the empty plastic bottles.
