The Open runs for four days |
Police are urging visitors to the Open Golf Championship in Merseyside not to travel by car, even though train services will be reduced. Extra buses are being operated by Merseytravel for visitors to the event, which starts on Thursday at the Royal Liverpool in Hoylake.
RMT rail workers are striking on Friday, with some services affected.
Merseyside police say parking near the course is limited and warns of fines drivers who park in restricted areas.
Ch Supt Colin Matthews, of Merseyside police, said: "I would like to stress to people attending the Open that Hoylake will be extremely busy during the event and will have a large amount extra traffic on the roads.
'Strict controls'
"As a result we would strongly advise people not to use their own vehicles, but to rely on the excellent local bus services and the replacement bus services provided by Merseytravel to ensure the local area is not obstructed with unnecessary traffic.
"Parking near to the course is severely limited to residents only parking and will be strictly controlled throughout the event.
"Any cars left unattended in prohibited areas will be removed at the owners' expense."
The open runs until Sunday.
