Mersey cup final charity re-match
Kenny Dalglish
Kenny Dalglish will be in charge of the Liverpool side
A re-match of the first all-Merseyside FA Cup Final is to take place to raise funds for cancer research.

Proceeds from the Liverpool v Everton re-match will go towards the cancer charity founded by Marina Dalglish, wife of Anfield legend Kenny.

Alan Hansen, Peter Reid, Ian Rush and Graeme Sharp have all promised to play in the match at Anfield on 1 May.

The Marina Dalglish Appeal aims to build a new breast cancer centre of excellence at Aintree hospital.

Marina Dalglish founded the appeal after being treated for breast cancer.

'Magnificent advert'

Her husband will take charge of the Liverpool old boys with Howard Kendall managing the Everton side - just as the two did in 1986 when the sides met at Wembley and Liverpool won 3-1.

Kenny Dalglish said: "This is about celebrating and reliving one of the greatest FA Cup finals ever played.

"What matters now is about us all getting together again, enjoying the day and raising more money for Marina's charity.

"The original final was a fantastic occasion for both sets of fans and the way they behaved and conducted themselves made the occasion.

"It was brilliant to see people travelling to Wembley together, some wearing red and some dressed in blue. It was Merseyside united and a magnificent advert for the city.

"We are hoping as many people as possible will come along and enjoy the reunion game."
