Shields was on holiday after the Champions' League final |
Solicitors for Michael Shields, the teenager jailed for attacking a barman in Bulgaria, are expected to make an application for bail on Monday. The Liverpool football fan from Wavertree was jailed for 15 years for the attempted murder of Martin Georgiev but has protested his innocence.
Graham Sankey, 20, also from Liverpool has signed a statement claiming he was responsible for the attack.
Hundreds attended a vigil for Shields in Liverpool city centre on Sunday.
However, Bulgarian Mr Georgiev has said the courts have jailed the right man.
Martin Georgiev's skull was fractured in the attack |
"I remember very clearly his face," he said. "I am not revengeful but the man who has done it he must bear the consequences."
Shields claimed he was in bed when a paving slab was dropped on Mr Georgiev's head.
He was holidaying in the Black Sea resort of Varna after travelling to Turkey to watch Liverpool in the European Champions League Final.
A spokeswoman for his Bulgarian solicitors said an application for bail is due on Monday.
Electrician Mr Sankey signed the confession on Thursday. In it he said he threw a brick at a group of people and did not realise Mr Georgiev was injured.
They hope the signed confession could help free Shields, who has always denied the attack.
An earlier unsigned statement by Mr Sankey was not accepted at Shields' trial.
