 John Lennon's tunic is predicted to sell for �30,000 |
The tunic which inspired the cover for the Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album is set to go under the hammer later this month. The military band tunic worn by John Lennon in a Life magazine photoshoot in 1966 is predicted to sell for �30,000.
The garment is part of a sale of Lennon memorabilia being auctioned in London on 28 July.
Other items include the song writer's hand-written manuscript of All You Need Is Love.
'Idealistic and irreverent'
The manuscript was retrieved from the stage floor directly after the Beatles' final live TV performance in 1967 and is expected to fetch �500,000, according to auctioneers Cooper Owen.
Ted Owen, director of Cooper Owen, said: "Together, the items in this sale combine all the best elements of the man himself.
"It is iconic, idealistic and irreverent. We are honoured to be passing them on - and the sale itself will celebrate Lennon and his legacy the way it was meant to be celebrated."
There are 12 items in the sale, including a Yamaha electric piano given to Lennon by Elton John and an oil painting Lennon created while he was a student in Liverpool.
