Pensioners in Cheshire are being warned to be on their guard after a series of incidents involving men claiming to be police officers. Police said there had been seven thefts or attempted thefts since the weekend.
In the latest, a man wearing a police uniform turned up at the home of an elderly woman in Ellesmere Port, but he left empty-handed.
Officers are also liaising with colleagues in north Wales investigating similar cases.
Refused entry
They are investigating four incidents in Ellesmere Port and another three in south Cheshire.
In most instances, a man has called at the home of a pensioner claiming to be a police officer who caught someone with a large amount of money and asking if the householder had had any cash stolen.
In one incident, on Tuesday afternoon, the man took cash from the bedroom of a 93-year-old woman in Ellesmere Port.
Later, a uniformed man turned up at a pensioner's house on Rugby Road but was refused entry.
