A Merseyside MP is calling for the government to scrap all unauthorised motorway billboards. Wirral south MP Ben Chapman, claims that billboards are a distraction that could endanger the safety of drivers.
The MP argues that the makeshift hoardings - such as those between junctions 18 and 19 of the M6 at Knutsford - are a hazard.
He says that the size and boldness of these billboards could distract drivers and cause accidents.
Mr Chapman wants action taken against large hoardings - usually lorries, buses and other large vehicles - that have been painted or covered in posters and left to act as an advertisement.
He says they do not appear to be regulated and should be assessed by police.
