ITV Granada is celebrating 50 years |
Stars of Coronation Street swop the Rovers Return for city hall on Tuesday when they receive the Freedom of Liverpool on behalf of ITV Granada. Actors such as Bill Roache (Ken Barlow), Johnny Briggs (Mike Baldwin) and Bruce Jones (Les Battersby) will be among the Corrie stars at the ceremony.
The city is honouring ITV Granada in its 50th anniversary year.
The company is being honoured for helping to spotlight Liverpool, both regionally and nationally for 50 years.
It joins an illustrious line-up of other businesses and organisations who are on the City's Freedom Roll.
These include the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society, Liverpool and Everton Football clubs, National Museums Liverpool and in 2004 The 156 (North West) Transport Regiment.
"Talented performers, writers and directors have been given the opportunity to showcase their creativity, and the city itself has been selected as the backdrop for many of ITV Granada's best known programmes," said Mayor Alan Dean.
