Head teacher Phil Williamson says teachers should smack unruly pupils |
A school which wants teachers to be allowed to smack unruly pupils was taking its case to the House of Lords on Wednesday. The Christian Fellowship School, in Edge Hill, Liverpool, says its stance is backed by passages in the Bible.
It wants corporal punishment to be allowed with parental consent.
The practice is currently outlawed by the Education Act 1996 and the school's bid for a review of the legislation was thrown out by the Appeal Court in 2002.
The hearing is due to last two days.
