Abandoned cars are removed and crushed by police

The cars have been removed so they cannot be used to commit crimes. All the vehicles were reported as being abandoned by residents.

The car purge campaign is part of the "Together" initiative.

This is a move by Merseyside Police, the city council and other agencies to curb anti-social behaviour.

The aim of the campaign, in Netherley and Valley, is to improve the quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors.

Sgt Geoff Turner, of Merseyside Police, said: "We and our partners are tackling the issues that matter most to our community.

"Removing these cars, which are an eyesore and an invitation to criminal behaviour, is just one issue which we can deal with quickly."

All the vehicles taken away will be crushed and disposed of.
