Memories of Liverpool 50 years ago will be recorded in the archive |
People in Liverpool are being asked to add their memories of the city to an exhibition, before their landscape changes in a 220m regeneration scheme. The exhibition, to be housed at the former Gaumont Cinema on Oakfield Road, will serve as a heritage archive for the people of Anfield and Breckfield.
The over-55s are being asked to bring family photos to the centre on Wednesday, to add to the archive.
The Liverpool Lighthouse centre will also be recording residents' memories.
People are invited to visit the centre from 1030 GMT to add their recollections to the archive, by organisers the ABBA Project (Anfield Breckfield Aging Arts).
The Anfield and Breckfield area is to be transformed with the demolition of 1,300 houses, 400 new homes, a new health centre, an internet youth caf and a new stadium for Liverpool Football Club. The organisers are also looking to set up an over-55s choir, who will perform their first song at 1530 GMT.
Councillor Warren Bradley, executive member for leisure and culture, said: "'The elderly in Liverpool have lived through many fascinating and enthralling events such as the Blitz to the height of Beatlemania.
"They have a huge role to play to help our youngsters understand the city's past and help create a better future.''
The event is organised by Liverpool Culture Company, Liverpool Lighthouse, Age Concern, New Beginnings, National Museums Liverpool and community development teams in the Anfield/Breckfield area.
