Thousands of people from across Merseyside have gathered at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral to hear the Dalai Lama deliver a lecture. The Tibetan spiritual leader spoke about secular ethics during the John Moores University Roscoe Lecture, as well as answering audience questions.
He received an honorary John Moores University fellowship and will join the city's Faith In One City events.

Two thousand people attended the event, to hear the 68-year-old monk speak about morality, humanity, and the need for people to work together to diffuse global unrest.

"It is foolish to dwell on external differences because our basic natures are the same." "In ancient times society was more religious. In modern society it is not.
"I think our plan should be to place more emphasis on moral ethics, including secular ethics, in educational institutions.
"As a result the individual becomes more happy, more self confident, more courageous, more open minded, more compassionate."
