Clubs have set their rivalry to one side for charity |
Clubs and DJs in Liverpool are joining together to raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. The city's club promoters say although there is fierce competition between club nights, they will set their differences aside for Clubathon 2004.
Clubbers will pay 5 to get into the event, based at Club 051, on Friday.
It will raise money for the charity set up by the late Roy Castle, who died of cancer after spending many years entertaining in smoke-filled clubs.
Charity founder Professor Ray Donnelly, said the "dangers of smoking will touch an audience often hard to reach.
He added: "Early diagnosis would mean early treatment and this might give people many more years to live."
Carl Burleigh, manager of Club 051, said people in Liverpool's entertainment industry had been very supportive.
He said: "So many of us know someone who has been affected by lung cancer so we're hoping the city will get behind us by coming along and supporting this event."
Garlands, Society, G-Bar, Sunrise, Club Arena and Bar Red are among the city's clubs taking part.
Lung cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK.
