Shops have suffered from graffiti in the past |
Children in Liverpool have chosen art over crime to paint a graffiti mural on shop fronts. They are the winners of a competition to design a community mural in the Speke area of the city.
Police officers held a competition for primary school children to come up with designs for a mural to go on the shutters of shops in Central Parade.
Businesses there have suffered from illegal graffiti in the past but police hope the competition will prevent this.
Merseyside Police said the project aimed to encourage children to look after their environment and deter anti-social behaviour.
Over the next three Sundays the winning children and their friends along with an arts graduate and community officers will put their designs on the shutters.
