A conference was being held in Liverpool on Tuesday to discuss plans for the European Capital of Culture year in 2008.

More than 100 communications professionals were attending the event to assess how they can get involved.

It is called "Ask Not", in reference to the famous inaugural presidential speech by John F Kennedy.

Members of the cultural, public and voluntary sectors were due to take part in the event, the first in a series.

It was due to include workshops and presentations by some of those who have been involved cultural event organisations around the world.

Organisations will be called on to consider what they can do for Liverpool in the run up to the cultural year and how they can get directly involved in the preparations.

Kennedy's speech told people; "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country".
