Girl search moves to Pakistan
Shafilea Ahmed
Police believe Shafilea is almost certainly dead
Police may fly to Pakistan to piece together information about a missing girl they believe is almost certainly dead.

Shafilea Ahmed disappeared from her home in Cheshire two months ago after she had been taken to Pakistan for a family wedding.

It is believed the family had been in the process of arranging a marriage for the 17-year-old there.

Her disappearance came after she apparently drank bleach while she was in Pakistan, in a possible protest about the idea of an arranged marriage.

Shafilea was left with injuries to her throat and stomach and spent five weeks in hospital before returning to England.

Teacher's concern

Because she has not received treatment since she disappeared, it is feared she may have died from her injuries.

But detectives are not ruling out murder.

Cheshire Police have also confirmed it was not her family who reported her missing, but a teacher at her former school.

It is believed the teacher heard members of Shafilea's family talking about her disappearance and reported it to the police.

Shafilea, known as Shaf to her friends, was last seen on 11 September.

A search of wasteground last week failed to find any clues.
