Ikea already has a store in nearby Warrington |
Swedish furniture company Ikea is planning to open a store on Merseyside. It is thought the company intends to build on land in Netherton.
The firm is expected to submit a planning application in the coming weeks to build a store at the junction of Dunnings Bridge Road and Heysham Road.
It would be the second Ikea in the region - the firm already has a store at the Gemini Retail Park in Warrington.
Sefton Council leaders have welcomed the news and predict the new store will create hundreds of jobs.
Major investment
Council leader Dave Martin said it was a major boost for the Bootle and Netherton areas.
He said he hoped it would lead to other major companies investing in the area.
Councillor Martin added: "The workers are here, the area is one that is being redeveloped and the government has put plenty of money into South Sefton.
"Millions of pounds are going in here now for housing and other developments in the area.
"Ikea have looked at this and decided this is the place to come to."
