Historic ship raised from dock
The Glaciere
The Glaciere will be restored for public display
A 19th Century Baltic trader on the bottom of a dock in Liverpool has been lifted from the water.

A 200-ton crane raised The Glaciere from the waters of Collingwood Dock - ahead of a major restoration programme.

The ship first sank in the dock, at Seaforth in 1995 and was raised three years ago, only to sink again.

Her new owner Dave Murray, a Liverpool-born sailing enthusiast, has bought the vessel from the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company.

He hopes to restore the vessel to be moored in Liverpool's Albert Dock for the public to visit.

Mr Murray will be offering diving lessons in return for people who want to help with the restoration project.

A former exhaust fitter who got the sailing bug eight years ago, he has sailed 25,000 miles including a trip across the Atlantic with his wife Colette.

Mr Murray is appealing for anyone who sailed on the ship to send their memories.
