Marconi workers face job threat
Marconi workers
The company has already shed hundreds of jobs in Liverpool
Workers at Marconi are due to find out whether there would be job losses at the firm's Liverpool plant.

Staff at the Edge Lane site are expected to be told in letters this week whether their jobs will be axed.

The mailing was set to come from the telecommunications giant after it announced at the end of May that it was shedding 500 jobs.

This is on top of 1,500 job losses already being sought by the company.

The cuts will bring its worldwide workforce down to 13,000.

It currently employs 5,000 people in the UK at Edge Lane and other plants in Coventry, Beeston and Chelmsford.

The company has already shed hundreds of posts at its Liverpool plant.
