Man dies in reservoir rescue bid

A man has been found dead in a frozen reservoir after it is thought he jumped in to rescue his dog.

Adam Littleford, 43, plunged through the ice at High Rid reservoir near Lostock in Bolton on Monday morning.

Passers-by were alerted because of the dog howling beside his abandoned car next to the icy waters.

Mountain rescue and underwater search teams saw a hole in the ice and found him a few hours later. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said they were not treating his death as suspicious.
