The new 2m scanner system can detect dangerous fluids hidden in baggage
A new £2m scanner system designed to quickly detect any threats to aviation security, is being introduced at Manchester Airport.
The X-ray technology, which can detect dangerous fluids hidden in baggage, has been designed to speed up the check-in process and enhance safety.
Designed by Rapsican Systems, the Real Time Tomography (RTT) generates high-resolution 3-D X-ray images.
It produces them at far higher speeds than the current technology.
Mike Fazackerley, customer service director for Manchester Airport, said: "The RTT has the potential to dramatically improve the security process.
"The ongoing security issues in the UK present serious cost implications for our business.
"Any opportunity to invest in technology that enables us to meet security regulations, while making the passenger experience simpler, is something we're willing to experiment with."
