Funeral for 'Busby Babe' Greaves

Greaves had a 21-year career in management

The funeral for Ian Greaves, a former member of Manchester United's Busby Babes team and a football club manager, has taken place.

Greaves, who spent seven years at Old Trafford before beginning his managerial career at Huddersfield, died aged 76 earlier this month.

His greatest success was guiding Bolton Wanderers to promotion to the First Division in 1977-78.

The funeral was held at Christ Church in Heaton at 1315 GMT.

Alan Gowling, who played for Greaves at Bolton, described him as a "gentleman".

"Ian could turn on the hard pitches as well as anybody, but when he was away from the job he was a real gentleman.

"There weren't many people he got on the wrong side of," said Gowling.

After leaving Bolton, Greaves had shorter spells in charge at Oxford United and Wolverhampton Wanderers before taking over at Mansfield Town.

He enjoyed further success with the Stags, who won promotion in 1986 and lifted the Freight Rover Trophy at Wembley the following year.
