Kenny won gold in the team sprint event and silver in the individual sprint |
A civic reception has been held for Olympic gold medal winner Jason Kenny in his hometown of Bolton. The 20-year-old cyclist won gold and silver medals at the Olympic Games in Beijing this year. He won gold in the team sprint event, along with Chris Hoy and Jamie Staff, and silver in the individual sprint. About 500 people gathered in Victoria square to see the Farnworth hero show off his medals on the steps of Bolton Town Hall. He then went on to meet the mayor and council leader Cliff Morris in the civic reception. Councillor Anthony Connell, Mayor of Bolton Council, said: "We are delighted to welcome Jason as our special guest and to pay tribute to his achievements in winning both Olympic gold and silver. "He is a great ambassador for Bolton, who has put Bolton on the map both nationally and internationally. "We hope that his triumph will inspire young people across the borough to pursue their own dreams and show them that talent combined with determination and hard work can lead to success."
