Police are monitoring different travel routes to Moscow
Plain clothes police officers are on patrol at Manchester airport to stop hooligans travelling to the England game in Russia.

The Euro 2008 qualifier is taking place on Wednesday in Moscow.

Football intelligence and uniformed police officers are stationed at the airport to prevent potential troublemakers getting on flights.

Greater Manchester Police said they will be monitoring all possible travel routes to the game.

Those with known convictions for violence or football-related disorder will not be able to travel.

Officers will also be identifying potential new offenders, a police spokesman said, and can apply for banning orders for people suspected of travelling to commit violence.

Ch Insp Chris Ullah, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "Anyone thinking of travelling to Moscow with the intention of causing trouble should think again.

"We will have plain clothes officers working to spot known troublemakers and uniformed officers will be providing a high-visibility presence at the airport, talking to fans.

"In previous operations, the majority of people approached by officers were genuine supporters who were co-operative and understanding about what we are doing."
