Jessie was shot near the youth club he attended |
The police handling of a phone call thought to be linked to the Jessie James murder inquiry is to be investigated, it has been confirmed. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) will examine the police response to the call received on the mobile of an off-duty officer.
It was made 85 minutes before a 999 call reporting the shooting of the 15-year-old in Manchester was received.
Jessie James was gunned down in Raby Street, Moss Side, on 9 September.
Greater Manchester Police believe the call may have been about an incident linked to his killing.

The schoolboy was shot three times with a semi-automatic pistol outside a basketball court in Moss Side and died at the scene.
Naseem Malik, IPCC Commissioner for the North West, said: "The shooting of Jessie James is something that has shocked the whole community in Moss Side.
"I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sympathy to Jessie's family and friends.
"Our investigation will seek to determine what actions were taken in response to the call and who within Greater Manchester Police was made aware of the telephone call and when.
"It would not be appropriate to reveal the content of this telephone call at this stage.
"Our investigation will be entirely separate from, and secondary to, the murder investigation currently being carried out."
Separate shootings
Police said the murder was first reported in a 999 call at about 0240 BST.
Detectives have revealed a call was made 85 minutes before that to the mobile phone belonging to an off-duty officer who was not based in Moss Side.
Jessie's killing came less than three months after 45-year-old Ernest Gifford was shot at home on the same street.
And last month, three men were shot and wounded in two separate incidents in other parts of Moss Side.
