Opera lovers will be able to watch a performance of Mozart's Marriage of Figaro as it is screened live in Manchester's Exchange Square. The performance will be broadcast from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden to the BBC Big Screen on 28 June.
Classical artists will perform ahead of the opera, from 1700 BST on Wednesday.
England World Cup matches were being shown live in the square but screenings were scrapped after trouble broke out at their first match against Paraguay.
The games are now being shown on a ticket-only basis in the Castlefield area of the city.
Manchester City Council's Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, Councillor Mark Hackett, said: "These public screenings of the Royal Opera House performances bring a vibrancy to Manchester's public open spaces on summer evenings, and are a delightful way for shoppers, workers and families to spend time relaxing in the city centre."
Puccini's final opera, Turandot, also performed by The Royal Opera, will be broadcast on the screen on 7 July.
