Security staff taught terror plan

The scheme has been used in London since 2004
Security staff are being taught how to better protect workers from the threat of terrorism on a day-to-day basis.

Workers across Greater Manchester are attending a course to teach them about counter-terrorism issues.

The scheme, called Project Griffin, is designed to put a structure in place so security staff and police work together in the event of a major incident.

It has been used by the City of London Police and the Metropolitan Police Service since 2004.

More than 2,000 security personnel across the capital have attended the awareness day with the project now being rolled out across the rest of the country.

The scheme will provide security managers from across the region with a flavour of the objectives and content of the Griffin awareness programme.

It will include sections on the current terrorist threat, explosives, terrorist planning, the Manchester city centre evacuation plan and cordon management.
