Guided tours at restoration baths
Manchester's Victoria Baths
The building has been derelict for more than a decade
Members of the public are being allowed to view derelict swimming baths being restored later this year at an estimated cost of 18m.

Work on Victoria Baths, on Hathersage Road, Manchester, which won the BBC's Restoration programme in 2003, is to start this October.

The building includes private baths, a laundry, jacuzzi, three swimming pools and Turkish baths.

Open days are being staged on the first Sunday of every month for guided tours.

Local opposition

The open days will run from March to October, starting on Sunday, from noon to 1600 GMT.

A team of architects, engineers and quantity surveyors have been appointed to work on the project.

The baths won the prize after 282,018 television viewers voted for the project to win.

The complex was built for the poor of inner Manchester between 1903 and 1906, but was closed by the council in 1993, in the face of much local opposition.

A series of centenary events will be held in September to mark the 100th anniversary of the baths.
