The compensation payments to the family of murdered policeman Stephen Oake have been condemned as "derisory". Det Con Oake was stabbed to death by ricin plotter Kamel Bourgass in a flat in Manchester in 2003.
His wife and three children have each received �13,000 from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority.
On Sunday, a spokesman for the Greater Manchester Police Federation condemned the figure, saying it failed to match the sacrifice Det Con Oake had made.
The 40-year-old was stabbed while protecting colleagues during a police raid on a flat in Crumpsall, north Manchester, in January 2003.
His family has received a total of about �52,000, a figure intended to reflect Stephen Oake's age, the type of pension he had and the age and number of dependent family members.
It is understood that an appeal launched by Bourgass, who was convicted of Stephen Oake's murder and terrorism-related activities, will cost the taxpayer about �1m.
