Janie Noble knows all about the Amarillo connection |
A church minister is finding her way from Amarillo - to comedian Peter Kay's home town of Bolton. Methodist Janie Noble says the timing of the year-long visit from her Texan home town could make her a "celebrity".
The re-release of Tony Christie's hit (Is This The Way To) Amarillo for Comic Relief has topped the chart after Kay gave it his backing.
Parishioners at Westhoughton Methodist Church will put the song and Ms Noble, in their forthcoming pantomime.
Ms Noble will be preaching for a year in Bolton. She says the connection could be her "claim to fame".
Peter Kay used (Is This The Way To) Amarillo in his stand-up shows |
She said: "One of my supervisors called and asked if we knew about it and we were surprised.
"They were so excited about the connection. It's kind of ironic you go somewhere to be a minister and you don't think of a celebrity.
"But I will be a celebrity. That will be my claim to fame!"
Kay, who still lives in his home town, has used (Is This The Way To) Amarillo in his stand-up routines and TV show Phoenix Nights.
He recruited a host of TV celebrities to appear in a video, which was shown during Comic Relief's Red Nose Day on 11 March.
It shows Kay miming the track alongside stars including Michael Parkinson, Jimmy Saville and Ronnie Corbett.
