Police cordoned off parts of Manchester Royal Infirmary
Armed police are on guard at a Manchester hospital following a triple shooting in the Moss Side area.

A 33-year-old man was in a serious condition after being shot several times in the incident, on Cranswick Street, on Wednesday evening.

One man has a wound to his wrist and another suffered leg injuries.

Police, on guard at Manchester Royal Infirmary, said two men have been arrested, including a 20-year-old on suspicion of attempted murder.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested near the hospital on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

Search powers

Police said the three victims took themselves to a Manchester hospital with gunshot injuries.

The seriously injured man, who was shot several times in the upper body, has since been transferred to another hospital.

A section of Cranswick Street remained cordoned off as police continued their investigations into the incident. They said several bullet casings have already been recovered.

Several areas at Manchester Royal Infirmary were cordoned off to preserve any evidence.

High-visibility police patrols, including armed officers, were being introduced in the Moss Side area to reassure the community, as well as a crime deterrent and to react quickly to any further incidents.

Police said they had been granted powers allowing them to stop and search people to check if they were carrying weapons.
