LS Lowry was known to re-use the same canvass to save money |
An exhibition showing the secrets behind the paintings of LS Lowry opens to the public on Monday. Art historians hope that X-rays will allow people to see a different side of the artist at The Lowry arts centre, in Salford, Greater Manchester.
Four months ago, they began taking X-ray images of six paintings.
Experts hope modern technology will show people something of the techniques the Salford artist used and reveal earlier images he then painted over.
The artist was known as a frugal man who re-used old canvasses in order to save money.
The exhibition - entitled Hidden - will run at the Lowry until the autumn.
