The operation is routine, says the FA |
England skipper David Beckham has undergone an operation to remove a cyst on his back. The procedure, carried out in a Manchester hospital, has been described as routine by the Football Association.
Beckham left the pitch at half time in the Euro 2004 warm-up friendly against Iceland at the City of Manchester stadium on Saturday for the injection.
He will have to skip training for two days, but Sven-Goran Eriksson has assured fans Beckham is fine.
'Absolutely OK'
Eriksson said: "I can guarantee you that it is no problem and they decided two days ago he should have the injection because of a small inflammation in his back.
"It was better to do the injection after the game because he has to rest for two days and he will be ready to practise when we return."
The Real Madrid and former United midfielder will be back in training when Eriksson's side begin their preparations in Portugal for Sunday's opening clash with France in Lisbon.
Eriksson added: "He went to the doctors but he is absolutely okay, believe me."
