Flights from Manchester Airport are to resume after a computer error grounded all UK flights on Thursday morning. No flights were allowed to take off from Manchester, Liverpool and Blackpool airports after problems at Air Traffic Control in West Drayton.
A British Airways spokesman said the airspace re-opened at about 0730 BST and the situation was improving slowly.
A spokesman for Manchester Airport said the average delay was 45 minutes and "passengers should turn up as normal."
Normal check-in
"The backlog nearly cleared but there'll be knock on effects for the rest of the day," he said.
Flights were suspended from 0610 BST to 0655 BST and during that time 30 flights were prevented from taking off.
At Blackpool Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport, passengers are being advised to check in as normal and to expect delays of up to two hours.
Flights across the country were delayed for about two hours, from 0545 BST when computers failed at Air Traffic Control.
Aircraft due to fly over UK airspace were told to make emergency landings at the nearest airport.
National Air Traffic Services confirmed most flights from UK airports have been suspended following the computer failure.
