The apartments could provide views of far-away Snowdonia |
Work is due to start on what is said to be the tallest residential skyscraper in the UK. The Beetham Tower will stand 554ft (169m) tall on Deansgate, Manchester, and will have 47 storeys.
The development will accommodate a 285 bedroom Hilton Hotel and 219 apartments and penthouses.
The hotel, which will be designed by Ian Simpson Architects, will take up the first 22 storeys of the building, rising to a height of 164ft (50m).
The development will feature a slender glass tower - with a 66ft (20m) glass "blade".
It will stand at the crossroads of Deansgate, Great Bridgewater Street and Liverpool Road.
The current tallest tower is Canada Tower in London's Canary Wharf, at 778ft (237m) tall.
But this will soon be eclipsed by the newly-approved Shard of Glass, which will stand 994ft (303m) at London's Tower Bridge.
Developers say residents of Beetham Tower can expect views over Snowdonia, Liverpool and Blackpool Tower.
