Boxing silver medallist, Amir Khan, will be coming back to a hero's welcome on Tuesday when he returns to his home town of Bolton.

The 17-year-old star touched down in the UK on Monday and is due to arrive at Manchester Airport at 2130 BST.

He won the silver medal after losing 30-22 to Cuban Mario Kindelan in the lightweight final on Sunday.

The teenager, who trained at Bury Amateur Boxing Club, was already the European and world junior champion.

Amid speculation that he might turn professional, on Sunday he pledged to stay amateur until the Beijing Games.

"I'll be stronger and more mature for the next Olympics and hopefully I'll win gold and then have something behind me when I go professional," he said.

Khan's coach Terry Edwards praised the boxer's decision.

"It is important for him to stay amateur for the next Olympics for the experience," he said.

"He needs more experience and more maturity."
