Greater Manchester Police have been dismantling security barriers from the centre of Manchester as Labour's Spring Conference ends.

The weekend passed off without incident despite hundreds turning out for an anti-war march on Saturday.

Protesters demonstrated peacefully outside the G-Mex Centre where the Prime Minister Tony Blair had earlier addressed delegates.

Greater Manchester thanked public and delegates for their co-operation.

Anti-war protesters had carried a statue of Mr Blair which they later toppled, mimicking the fall of a huge bronze statue of Saddam Hussein which was knocked down in Baghdad last April.

The Prime Minister told the party conference at the G Mex centre he would fight the "new menace" of terror.

Many roads around the G-Mex which had been cordoned off are now re-opened and drivers allowed back in.

And hundreds of extra officers who had been called in, finally went off duty.
