Death call driver jailed
Kevin Moran
Kevin Moran missed 15 road signs before the accident
A van driver who was talking on his mobile phone when he killed a motorcyclist at a busy roundabout has been jailed for five years.

Kevin Moran, 46, from Rochdale, was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving last month at Liverpool Crown Court.

Gary Smith, from Atherton, near Wigan, died when Moran took a wrong turn and crashed into him.

Moran, was talking to his wife when he made an illegal right turn where the East Lancs Road meets the M6 in Merseyside.

He collided with Mr Smith who died later in hospital.

The court heard that Moran missed fifteen different direction signs as he travelled from St Helens to the busy Haydock junction where the East Lancs Road meets the M6.

The court was told the father-of-six was full of remorse over the accident.

Last week it became illegal to use hand-held mobiles while driving.
